Fresh herbs can seem daunting to some folks to use on a regular basis in the kitchen.
So I started blending dried versions of our farm’s herbs with Celtic Sea Salt & Mediterranean Sea Salt – and customers really seemed inclined to give the jars a try!
Throughout the year I sell a diverse and rotating variety of the farm’s herbs blended with the sea salt as a way to elevate your cooking and nutritional experiences in the kitchen.
What’s special about Celtic Sea Salt?
Celtic Sea Salt is a hand-harvested distinct variety of salt with rich cultural traditions in lands where the Celts lived for centuries, including the Brittany region of France.
Harvesting this sea salt involves collecting seawater from tidal pools and channelling it into shallow, clay-lined salt marshes called “oeillets.” As the water evaporates naturally under the sun and breezes, the salt crystallizes, retaining its rich mineral content from the seawater.
This traditional method of collecting & drying the salt, results in a coarse salt with a grey hue, imparted by trace mineral elements from the clay and algae.
Its unrefined and undergoes minimal processing, which allows it to retain vibrant flavors and nutritional qualities that support hydration, digestion, mineral absorption, skin health, and muscle function in our bodies.

What are the health benefits?
While our traditional table salt is heavily processed and stripped of natural minerals, sea salt retains:
- Magnesium: to supports bones, muscles, and nerve function.
- Potassium: to help regulate blood pressure and heart health.
- Calcium: to strengthen bones and teeth.
- Iron: to aid oxygen transport in the body.

As a Salted Herb Butter
You don’t have to make your own butter from scratch, but if you really want to take your butter from ho-hum to an exquisite experience for your taste buds, buy a block of specialty butter from the store & mix a small portion (1/8 – 1/4 cup) with a tablespoon of the herb salt.
Then slather over a piece of homemade or locally-made fresh bread and get ready for a simple, yet satisfying culinary experience.
If you’re really into unique culinary experiences, you could even slice tender spring radishes and place them on the buttered slice of bread.

Add to Soups & Stews
This is how I originally started experimenting with herb salts in the kitchen.
When my husband & I came back from our honeymoon from Iceland, we brought a few varieties of Icelandic herbs mixed into sea salts. I started recreating a lamb stew that we savored multiple times on our trip and adding the herb salts.
Using herb salts, gives you that boost of nutrients from the salt (and is probably called for in your recipe) and imparts the herbal flavor into your soup or stew.

Add to Pasta or Rice Dishes
So many of our recipes call for a little bit of salt.
So rather than use the table salt, stripped of nutrients, use a Celtic Sea Salt blended with my farm’s dried herbs for some real flavor & health benefits.
